Seasoned carp angler, Simon Crow, has fished many a spring down the years and thinks we’re still a few weeks behind in terms of where we were last year, but the good news is, the fish are on the feed again and out of winter mode!
Proof of that was this old Simmo named Peanut that graced Crowy’s net this week during a five-day session on his Lincolnshire syndicate water, coming to a Bug Corker wafter fished to an open-water spot.
“A fish known as Peanut, one of the old Simmo mirrors in my Lincs. syndicate water, looking very empty,” said Crowy.
“The lake has been a bit peggy recently, but they’re now starting to wake up and have a feed in open water, which is a sign they’re out of their winter mode. Although it’s been warm and sunny, the wind has been Baltic on the end of it.
“I still think we’re a week or two behind where we’ve been the last couple of springs. The trees around the lake aren’t the same colour they were this time last year. I’ve my second five-dayer in a couple of weeks’ time, so I’m hoping by then things should really be into spring carping mode. Either way, it was nice to get one of the older mirrors in my net.
“A DNA Bug Corker wafter on a simple braided rig did the trick.”
