We’ve had a mad busy morning on the farm today, so it’s only now I’m posting this, and it’s only now that the milestone of a 50+ fish in one of our lakes is sinking in!
We’ve been extremely lucky to have made an interest into a business, and even more lucky to have a great, solid following of anglers and anglers partners who choose to visit us for their holidays year after year.
We’ve also been very lucky to meet the right people to advise on how to look after fish. Without their knowledge there would have been a lot of trial and error!!
It’s not been a quick journey for this fish, but it’s continued to grow year after year. She’s now 21 years old, if my calculations are right! We have some younger fish from more recent stockings that are hot on her tail in terms of growth rates though. It’s going to be an interesting season ahead.Matt called us at around 9pm to say he had a 50 in the net and was ready for some help with pics! Needless to say Ben and I both drove up to the fishery to verify, as we knew there was only one fish that could do it (as Nemo had come out the day before at 48.8 to another angler).
Matt also had a 26lb mirror yesterday and a 30lb 8oz today, so cracking angling as usual and time for another yet!
The next milestone we are hoping for is a 40+ common. There are a couple in the main lake that should be able to do it this year. But as with the 50, until it’s caught we can only hope !
